This map shows the area of Pauwetiig as viewed facing South. You will notice when you go outdoors to check the sky, you do not naturally look to the North. It is a European convention to draw maps with the North at the "top". This map is drawn with the natural arc of the day's Sun strectching from east to west along the Southern Sky. The modern maps of the Sault Ste. Marie Area are contaminated in many ways by the European Vision of the world. This map image shows you the waterways that were the travelways of the First People. Long ago the water was free to flow along its natural course. In those times Anishnabe were also free to live as the Creator had intended.
